There are hundreds of amazing opportunities for the most memorable of moments. Party with us on your big day!
Hiring the right DJ or live band for your event can be a tricky venture! A live music element is absolutely amazing, and the chance to throw one of life's best parties certainly warrants the consideration to hire live musicians for some aspect of your wedding day. Perhaps a guitarist or harpist for the wedding ceremony, an Irish duo or a mariachi band during the cocktail hour would be the perfect accent to your most special day!
When it comes to the dance party itself, brides and grooms either hire a party band or a DJ to get the dance party started early and to keep the party hopping to the very end of the evening! Bands go on break, so make sure to interview your perspective entertainers about their capability and willingness to play from a selected song listing during dinner and any other break or down-time that they may expect. A live band can be quite expensive and so many couples opt to hire a professional wedding DJ or club DJ. If your DJ specializes in weddings, you know that you will have a pro weighing in on some of your timeline details and an MC to help you keep the reception time organized. Your wedding reception will fly by quickly and your DJ or MC will play a critical role in communication and timing of your event. From the wedding ceremony to the first dance and beyond, a capable DJ on hand is easy to recommend to any bride!
Call on Californos for some suggestions. We can guide you towards various DJs and Entertainment companies or live bands, based on past experience and client feedback.

Location is key to your wedding weekend, so think it through before committing to a place that doesn't offer it all.
Okay, you found a beautiful wedding venue where all your guests can fit in one big room! Congratulations, now, make sure you've considered a few other items before you place the deposit and commit to your location, as this is the biggest decision you will make after you select a future spouse! Just kidding. Anyhow, it's a pretty big deal, and so have you thought about these aspects yet?
Is there a staff of workers that come with your venue? If not, you're either going to have no one helping, or you're going to end up paying extra for catering staff. Maybe both. Make sure someone is there to help on your wedding day. Don't put your dad and groom in a situation where they are balancing off a ladder hanging decor, or sweeping up spilled beer on the dance floor. Don't pick a place where one lady is the only person you've ever seen working. Who is going to help make it all happen? A venue like Californos has much more to offer in this regard.
Guests will be drinking, we must assume. How will they get home safely?
At Californos - we have two lovely hotels across the street; guests can literally stumble there after your hosted open bar. Don't put guests in a spot where they are stuck without a ride home. Wait - does your venue even serve coffee? That would sure help and it would be nice, but you'd be shocked how many places don't offer any coffee service with the bar package.
How long should your party go? Should you host an after-party?
At Californos you can decide this at the very last second! Lots of options are available to you, since our bar and restaurant is on-site and we're in the heart of an entertainment district! Picking Californos as your venue means that you can walk to other bars for a nightcap, or stay and host more drinks or let guests purchase their own at our beautiful restaurant bar.
What should we do the morning after our wedding?
Go out to brunch of course! Meet up with out-of-town guests for brunch, coffee and mimosas the morning after your wedding! Californos can host you for a formal event or an informal reservation, depending on the size of your group. Why go anywhere else? At Californos you're a VIP, so let us help you execute the most amazing and completely planned out weekend possible!
Thanks for reading; you can bet that Californos will share more expertise with you when you book your wedding at our spectacular venue. Tour the event space this week and prepare to place a deposit with us to ensure the most completely well-planned-out that wedding Kansas City has to offer!

Why party in the outskirts of town when you can host your Kansas City wedding in the heart of it all? Californos is conveniently located to nightlife and shopping, but also located across the street from a couple of fantastic hotels, with more nearby! You can offer out-of-town guests a taste of Kansas City and make it convenient for them to make the trip at the same time!
AC Hotel Westport is a European-Style Marriott concept, new to Westport in 2015. The AC has quickly become our primary recommendation for weddings as they are across the street, newly renovated with modern design. The AC Hotel is located at 560 Westport Rd, Kansas City, MO 64111. Ask to speak with Kurt or the sales department for help booking.
The Embassy Suites - Country Club Plaza is equally close to our venue. Located at 220 West 43rd Street, Kansas City, MO 64111, the Embassy Suites offers larger rooms and a pool, just one block South of Californos. Ask to speak with Charles to book your block of rooms or reservation.
Courtyard Marriott Kansas City- Country Club Plaza is located at 4600 JC Nichols Parkway, KC, MO 64112. It's just one minute South of 43rd and Broadway by vehicle. This is approximately four blocks from event space at Californos Westport. Ask to speak with Eileen.
816 Hotel is a locally owned business at the corner of Westport Road and SW Trafficway. This means it is very convenient for guests, and the hotel features rooms with decor themed around Kansas City culture. Rooms feature the Royals, KC BBQ, and other historical or cultural ideas.
Ask for Luther to secure reservations.
The Rafael is located on the Plaza at 325 Ward Pkwy, Kansas City, MO 64112, a quarter mile from Californos. Finding the perfect location for your vows and ring ceremony is a big step in the early days or weeks of wedding planning for many an engaged couple. The trend is to host both events in one location for ease of planning and travel for special guests and family. Deciding whether to host this at a church, a park, or at your reception venue will be one of the first things to decipher as you move forward with your wedding budget and planning. Booking that perfect venue for the wedding and determining the logistics of who will be in the wedding ceremony is usually foremost on a bride's list of priorities when it comes to establishing some basics about the wedding and how it's all going to proceed. The exact time of the wedding usually takes a back seat to other details in these early conversations, but can be the next big question once brides have booked the venue for a wedding ceremony and reception in one single location.
As at a church ceremony, you can expect guests to begin arriving 30 minutes before the ceremony time indicated on your wedding invitation. Other considerations include whether...
...the ceremony is outdoors or inside, and in that case, how warm will it be for the ceremony? If you hold your ceremony during daylight hours, the sun will warm your guests in the early and late season. An indoor ceremony can benefit from the right light as well, so consult your photographer and ceremony venue to work out the ideal timing for your wedding ceremony.
For a Saturday wedding, there's generally no rule of thumb, as you can justify almost any time frame for an excuse to get together with friends and family and celebrate the big day! A ceremony in the morning, with an afternoon reception opens the door to a brunch or lunch event, which could be very fun and cost efficient. The vast majority of Saturday events will take place in the evening, with common ceremony times ranging from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
At our Westport venue and at many ceremony and reception locations in Kansas City, the wedding ceremony itself will take place in all of twenty minutes. We schedule a half an hour as a general rule of thumb, and brides are free to decide how long their own wedding ceremony will actually be. The wedding reception begins with an open bar and appetizers immediately following the vows and ring ceremony at Californos.
For a Friday wedding, there are often different considerations. Even though it feels like a Saturday to you and to many guests who have traveled into town for your special event, some local guests will work their normal schedule on the day of your event and may not be free until 6:00 pm or later. 7:00 pm or 6:30 at the earliest on a Friday is generally a good idea for allowing ample time for guests to arrive in a timely manner as they do intend!
At Californos, brides always come first! Our team members are available for tours of the event venue and complimentary wedding consultations on a daily basis! Our local business will cater to your needs, but we need to coordinate schedules as well, so you can get the most out of your visit to Californos! Our Event Pros, Ms. Mig Lillig and Mr. Aaron Barksdale-Burns, facilitate most of our wedding tours, with times set aside Monday-Saturday for engaged couples to visit the restaurant and view the expansive indoor and outdoor event space that our venue offers.
Most appointments are available during the day and on Saturdays. Consider that a Friday or Saturday may be a great time to visit our private ballrooms for a tour. That's when our venue is preparing for an actual wedding reception - and the timing always lets hosts get a better idea of how the space may look and feel for an event. Interested in coming in soon? Give it a try...
Technology is amazing and has allowed us to offer standard appointment times each week, which allows our staff more time to plan and execute beautiful parties! Our clients are still welcome to call, text, or email us about appointments and meetings, but our new online tool will streamline this process a bit for those who are just discovering our exciting, local and family operated business. Now we can schedule venue tours with engaged couples and brides-to-be online, and 24-hours a day! There's no waiting to get a confirmation from us, it will happen immediately!
