Many guests are surprised about Californos when they finally see it in person or when they first walk up to the place. The front of our restaurant today is a bit deceiving. It looks like a simple French style bistro, one story.
Westport's expansive Trolley Barn was constructed in 1903 as part of Kansas City's streetcar system which converted from horse power to electic power by 1908. Some evidence of the train tracks are still visible on Mill Street to the South. These tracks were part of the line, now best known as the Brookside Trolley Trail.
The building has also served as a warehouse for manufacturing, and as an indoor shopping center. Now home to Californos since 1988, the building has found new life as a venue for family, friends, music, food, drink, and most importantly, the times of our lives.
Congrats to all of the couples married here, both in the ballroom and on the back patio at Californos, at Westport's historic trolley barn building.
